About American Hairless Terrier:

About AHT.

The history of the American Hairless Terrier and how it all began.

The year is 1972; puppies were born out of purebred coated American Rat Terrier.
Among the puppies a little girl becomes naked, not knowing what to do with the
naked puppie, they gave her away to a man called Edwin Scotts.
The Scotts loved and cared for this little princess and gave her the name Josephine.
Princess Josephine gave her family the Scotts all of her heart and joy, and this were
the beginning of the story and how it developed and survived.

Today there is only a thousands amounts of the breed world wide.
Finland who has the biggest amounts of the breed in Europe.
The very first 3 AHT came to Finland in 2003.
Sweden got the first AHT in the year 2005
Denmark got the very first in the year 1999.
And Norway got the very first in the year of 2007.
Norway’s first AHT got the name OLIVIA.

Since there are so few of the breed it will be necessary to continue to include some
American Rat Terrier into the breeding program to maintained a healthy gene pool.

The American Hairless Terrier was recognized by U.K.C (United Kennel Club)
on January the 1, 2004.
of course nothing would be better if the breed could go further.
Something that a lot of AHT fans work for.

AHT is indeed in many ways different from other hairless breeds such as the,
Chinese Crested, Mexican hairless and the Peruaansk Hairless.
These other hairless breed all have some things in common like hair on top of
the head, feet and tail.
And they also give birth to coated puppies.
They also have missing Teeth.
The AHT has a complete set of strong white teeths, and the hairless gene is
recessive and that means that the puppies are born with hair, but loose the hair
around 12 weeks of age, and stays naked.
The AHT is a small-medium sized dog, height from 10-16 inches tall.
The breeds curiosity and intelligence makes them to an easy to train and work with.
They also get along well with other dogs, children and even cats.

People with allergies that have tried other naked dogs breeds and reacts on them.
Many have tried as a last solution on AHT and seem to tolerate this breed.
As it is mentioned AHT is in many ways different from other naked breeds.

In the end I would like to give you my personal comments of the good sides of the breed.
The good thing is that they are easy to learn, and that tells me that AHT really is an intelligent dog,
that loves small and big assiments, showing there loved once solid joy as well towards strangers.
Trustful and with good mentality, their curiosity makes them brave and a good guarding dog in a little body that shows their strength.
